Sharon Louden works in series. Each animation is a lateral expansion and continuation of her visual vocabulary. Her animations are whimsical and playful, yet elegant and beautiful. They are 'drawings in space': drawings that come alive and create a narrative that is abstract while also evoking feelings of something present, something representational. The work is meant to be viewed with an open heart and an innocent eye, to allow the viewer to let their guard down and enjoy these silly, sincere and heartfelt gestures in the animations. These characters gracefully move through the films, creating aspects of modern dance within an abstract presentation. Many of Sharon Louden's animations remind us of calligraphy, script, Japanese painting and the like, but within a playful imaginative place. It is as if gestural abstract drawing comes to life in these works, where Louden's anthropomorphic beings come to have their own identity through this medium.
