After Dark

Celebrity Animators
Mr. Canemaker will screen several of his most famous short films including his Academy Awarding film, The Moon And The Son: An Imagined Conversation. Following the screening, Canemaker returns to discuss his methods for animating “difficult subject matter”. This fascinating information is valuable to all types of filmmakers. Movie enthusiast will have a greater understanding and appreciation for the films the see. Don’t miss this unique, once in a lifetime opportunity.
Student
In a noisy city far from home, where music is the sole means of communication, a lonely janitor sleepwalks through his menial duties. Unnoticed and unappreciated, he quietly longs for the people and places he has left behind, but ultimately finds solace in solitude.Blending composite photographs with hand-drawn illustration, u201CLevu201D straddles the porous line between live action and animation, real emotion and surreal character. Pixellated photographs of live action actors and props were first digitally composited together, creating the surrealistic half-human, half-radio cast of characters. These composites were then printed out and inked by hand to create a boldly illustrated look. Finally, the photographs were cut out frame by frame and shot on 35mm film.

Music Video
Rob, the hero of the short animated film malaise, is a struggling and frustrated artist/singer/songwriter who makes his living as a busker. Rob proves to be self-involved and self-indulgent as he creates a series of destructive events that in turn cause tragic consequences to the people and environment around him. The film presents a warning about the dangers and consequences of u201Capathyu201D and how it can affect the role of the artist. Rob, finally, finds redemption through his music and its power to communicate and to influence.
